A.S.B. Selections
7th & 8th Grade students who are interested in applying for ASB must apply during the application process during 4th quarter of the year before they serve. Students are selected for ASB based on a rigrious application process including signatures of confidance from classmates and an informal observation. Officers are elected by the school after the ASB class is selected. The program is a year long comitment for 7th and 8th graders and approx. 10 6th graders are accepted into ASB at the semester after a similar application process.
A.S.B. Mission Statement
ASB is a representative group of South Pasadena Middle School students who communicate and interact with the student body to create and uphold a positive school environment by hosting activities, determining funds, enhancing school spirit, and contributing to the greater community through service.
A.S.B. Student Expectations
ASB meets as a grade level group during homeroom and meet as a whole class on 1-4 mornings a week before school from 7:00-7:50 am. In addition to during school meetings ASB students are expected to help with other school functions outside of “class” time, some of these activities will occur before or after school and other events will take place in the evenings. All ASB students will be expected to miss two days of school during the year to attend leadership-training workshops.
A.S.B. Homeroom Expectations
In addition to our formal business meetings A.S.B. students will be required to work on committee work and individual assignments such as posters etc. during their homeroom time. We expect the students to become self-advocates and seek out ways to assist others. Additionally we will be working on building leadership skills and the students will be reading appropriate books to focus on building leadership and confidence as well as ways to stop bullying, aggression, and negative influences.
